COLLAGE MANNEQUINS

In 2022 Julie began working on 3 full sized fashion mannequins to create collage sculptures.

The first one titled “Flo” was created for a joint exhibition titled “Beyond the Page” at Loft 275 Gallery, Ivanhoe Library & Cultural Centre. This exhibition was in February, 2022 with fellow artists Helen Platania and Deborah Bowen.

Flo represents every woman from every culture and of every age. The exhibition coincided with International Womens’ Day and this work was a tribute to that day. Flo was purchased and is in a private collection of her new owner.

The latest two works were created for a Thou Art Mum exhibition titled “Nature’s Story” held at The Barn Gallery, Montsalvat, Eltham. These mannequins are titled “Gaia” -Goddess of Nature and “Amphitrite” - Goddess of the Sea. Exhibition dates were 20 October - 13 November, 2022.

“Gaia” has recently been purchased and is in a private collection of the new owner.

“Amphitrite” is available for purchase, please contact Julie directly through the link on this website.

A variety of papers and images were used to create these artworks, sourced from Julie’s collection of books, magazines, printed papers and ephemera.

Julie has enjoyed using mannequins for her collage base so much that in 2023 she began work on her fourth piece titled “Maggie”. The inspiration came from a mix of spiritual beliefs, a fashion label named “Magnolia Pearl” and the mix of printed text found in vintage magazines and newspapers. Maggie was made purely for fun from a place of love and personal connection. Through the power of social media Maggie was found and purchased. She now resides in a little fashion boutique in the Victorian country town of Echuca.

The next and latest collage mannequin to be created in 2024 (number 5) was a commission by a lovely couple residing on Melbourne’s beachside peninsula. The brief was “vintage beach” and the purchasers provided total artistic freedom and expression for their mannequin to be created. Julie was overjoyed when the couple collected their new artwork for their home and were thrilled with their new piece.
